The Fat Facts: Butter vs Margarine, The Truth We’re Not Being Told
The products which contain butter products aren’t usually marked as healthy in the supermarkets where you buy them. Margarines are considered healthier.
Still, it’s not like that. We can’t tell the difference between some types of butter and margarine, because they are very similar.
Margarine has been created scientifically and results in trans-fats. This type of fats is very dangerous for our health. It’s considered to be a much cheaper alternative to butter. Margarine started to be produced massively in 1903.
After that, it was discovered that if hydrogen is added into the vegetable oil, it will create a product that is more spreadable and more solid.
The people who manufactured it back in the past, didn’t know that trans-fats can cause very harmful effects on our health. Now, experts claim that they act differently when they are in a body with unsaturated and saturated fats. Our body needs them so that it can function optimally.
Fats such as omega 3 and 6 are extremely important for the function of our brain. Some other important things are all fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins D, A and E, because they can transport all the fat throughout our body.
Trans-fats have a different molecular structure and also another function. A particular study from 2008 claims that the energy which is increased and is take from trans-fats by 2% can increase the risk of coronary artery disease by 23%.
Bad words started spreading about butter in the 1950s. It was discovered that the high levels of cholesterol which were found in animal fats and butter were connected to heart problems. After several years, these studies turned out to be wrong.
These days, we’re all well-aware of the fact that the fat which is in sugar and bread or otherwise known as simple carbohydrates is the one to blame for the development of cardiovascular problems. But, it has also been proved that levels of cholesterol that are a bit high can lead to a longer life.
So, next time you want to buy margarine or butter, think twice! Why wouldn’t you prevent any health problem when you are aware of them?
